Hello all. I’ve booked myself a 2 week trip to Japan in November, and I’m looking for some automotive-related tourism activities. I’ve already put the Mazda HQ, Nissan Gallery, Toyota Mega World on my list, and I’m currently waiting to hear back from fun2drive regarding a car rental for the Hakone turnpike.

The Toyota museum near Osaka isn’t going to work out in terms of timing.

Does the Subaru HQ in Tokyo have anything special to see?

Subaru Headquarters moved fairly recently, and they now have an actual lobby showroom. Previously, they had room for two cars.

JNC did a piece on it last year.

The Toyota Museum is near Nagoya ;)

Other than that, maybe go check out tuner cars going very fast around Tsukuba? It’s always lots of fun. As far as I know the Subaru HQ has a couple of ex-Colin McRae rally cars and stuff like that, but I’ve never been so I can’t really tell... What car are you planning to rent at F2D?

I too was looking at flights to HND/NRT around that time, the round-trip cost has really come down! Where do you recommend staying/where are you staying?

doh!

And F2D probably isn’t gonna happen. I cannot drive stick (bad knees - doctor’s orders) and the only automatic is also the most expensive (GTR).

I’m staying at the Shibuya Granbell for a couple of days, then I’m off to Kyoto & Hiroshima, then back to Tokyo.

For my second weekend in Tokyo I’ll do airbnb, but I haven’t figured out where yet.

Woah, Shibuya Granbell looks like a great immersive place to stay!

Well, this is your knee, but if I may, the AE86 has the lightest clutch and is among the cheapest cars :)

It’s also really, really fun. Or you could just get the R34 GTR, it’s the torquiest car that they have and you can just stay in 2nd of 3rd gear constantly in the mountains...
